Northern Michigan gets in your blood. With its miles of sugar sand beaches and acres of undisturbed forests encircled by the deep blue waters of the Great Lakes, life here is framed in ever changing beauty. I live in Manistee and to put it mildly, I love it here.
I spent my childhood in neighboring Benzie County. At eighteen, I moved downstate to Kalamazoo to attend college and ended up becoming a realtor there for several years. But the North Country always kept a hold on me. Then one weekend, I returned to this area to visit my parents and siblings. That was the weekend Dad said, “Margie, I want you to meet a very nice and interesting friend of mine.” I met him and Dad was right on all counts. To make a long story short, I moved to Manistee to re-establish my roots and married Alex Zaccanelli – that very nice and interesting man! We started our life together in this rambling turn-of-the-century house and I knew I was home.
There are many other lifestyles to be had – from urban chic to stylish suburban. But this small town, Northern Great Lakes lifestyle is gracious with unending charm. Days filled with walks on the beach or riverwalk; visits to the local farmers’ market or craft show; going to a movie at the Vogue, or going fishing when you get home from work. I realize on a daily basis how lucky I am to live here. And that’s what I want to share with you.
