The Fillmore

The newest eatery on River Street is The Fillmore whose window promises “Coffee and Brews.”  Inside is an inviting cafe with brick walls, reclaimed wood and comfortably cushy chairs.  It’s easy to see how this spot will become a favorite for folks who like to relax over a cup of coffee.

The artwork on the walls is photography of the area, printed just down the street at Hokanson’s Camera.  In fact, the owners have made a decision to acquire as much as they can locally which is much appreciated by other local businesses.  Sources like Cream Cup Dairy, WeeBee Jammin’, and Oleson’s Foods are on their list. The friendly vibe that fills this place is radiated by the staff who makes sure that their customers are happy. Owner, Nicole Knapp stopped by our table for a visit. Her enthusiasm for the business and this area was clear. A native of nearby Leelanau County, her energy is bringing new life to one of the historic buildings on River street.

We tried two of the salads which were excellent.  One was mixed spring greens with strawberries, blueberries and sautéed chicken.  The other was an interesting take on a Cobb Salad which also included chicken along with loads of fresh veggies.  Both were delicious.  Diners can also have a glass of wine or a beer with their meal.

As we finished our lunch, the place was beginning to fill up.  It clearly is becoming a popular place to visit.  No doubt, the staff is a big reason.  The Fillmore is a wonderful addition to downtown Manistee.
